Although Poinciana is a sprawling community with nearly 70,000 residents, there are still some names and faces that should stand out for good reason. Betty Dobbie is one of those residents.
Betty Dobbie, originally from Long Island, N.Y., relocated to South Florida in 1979. Once there, she says she “fell into real estate.” That “fall” led to her becoming president of Prominent Title Insurance in 2007.
Title insurance protects against the risk of losing your investment, whether it be commercial or residential, against outstanding liens or claims that could show up after property has been purchased. Prominent Title is a wholly owned subsidiary of Avatar Properties Inc. The mission statement of Prominent Title is “to support the success of our customers by producing quality-driven services delivered with an unwavering commitment to integrity, innovation and professionalism.” Prominent Title is a State of Florida-licensed title insurance agency.
Betty Dobbie moved to Poinciana in 2008. Though the move was job-inspired, Dobbie loves the area and sees Poinciana as “a diamond in the rough with great potential.” Not only does she talk the talk and walk the walk, Dobbie will be the 2011 Chairperson of the Poinciana Area Council.
The Poinciana Area Council (PAC), which operates under the umbrella of the Kissimmee/Osceola Chamber of Commerce, connects local business and the community. The incoming chair for the council attends Leadership Osceola for four months prior to prepare. Dobbie says Leadership was “an eye-opening experience. We saw how county operations are performed and how the county plans on meeting future needs. We saw the county from the ground up.” This is information that will help her meet the rigors of PAC leadership.
Become familiar with the names Batty Dobbie and Prominent Title. They will be an integral part of Poinciana.
Another Poinciana mover and shaker is Patricia DelBagno. Born in Italy, DelBagno moved from New York to Poinciana10 years ago. Active and a board of director’s member of the Poinciana Area Council and Poinciana Professionals, DelBagno was recently promoted to branch manager of Trustco Bank in Davenport. She invites Poinciana residents to check out this bank with real small-town service. For more information, call Patricia DelBagno at 863-424-9493.

This is what can be achieved with the power of the community joining together for a common goal.
This past Friday, the Polk County Commissioners met with a group from Poinciana — residents and leaders alike — to come up with a plan to help secure a park near the intersection of Poinciana Parkway and Lake Hatchincha Road. Currently, there are no parks near that area.
Although the budget is limited, the commissioners had Polk County park staff negotiate plans to develop a new park. This will happen quickly. The plan is to acquire land from Avatar, with the purchase to be financed. The property will be maintained by the Association of Poinciana Villages,
This was all achieved with the support of Polk County Commissioner Jean Reed, who has been working actively with Poinciana and, of course, those interested people who pled their case to the Polk County Commissioners. That’s the way to get things done.
